Trimming Clinics

This course is suited to any horse owner, vet or hoof trimmer/farrier who wants to further their knowledge in hoof care.

These courses are designed to build your knowledge as you attend progressive clinics. Therefore, you start by attending your first course, Day 1, continuing with Day 2, then Day 3, and so on until you have completed all clinics.

The first half of the day is spent learning the pathology behind a basic trim. The afternoon is spent applying that knowledge to your trimming skills guided by your experienced instructors applying the Equine Orthopaedic Balance® trimming principles.

Course attendees who complete all 14 one-day Basic Trimming Courses will be issued a Certificate of Attendance by the Board of Equine Orthopaedic Balance® in Australia.

We strongly encourage you to bring your own horse to learn no. However, you can pair up with a friend and have two people work on one horse together.

Basic Trimming Course - Day 1

The Day 1 clinic will cover:

Basic hoof anatomy
How the hoof works
Basic tool handling
Equine Orthopaedic Balance® trimming principles.

Includes an afternoon of advancing your trimming skills guided using Equine Orthopaedic Balance® trimming principles.

This course Day 10 is opened to any horse owner, vet or hoof trimmer/farrier who has attended the appropriate number of proceeding numbered day courses, that wants to further their knowledge in hoof care. These trimming courses are designed to further your hoof care knowledge.

The course will cover half a day of theory and half a day of trimming. We will cover anatomy in the hoof and a little upper body, as well as the importance of the hoof balance and hoof upper body connection. There will also be a component about tool handling and trimming theory.

This course Day 14 is opened to any horse owner, vet or hoof trimmer/farrier who has attended the appropriate number of proceeding numbered day courses, that wants to further their knowledge in hoof care. This trimming course is designed to further your biomechanical knowledge through biomechanical medicine.

As this is the last course offered in these basic trimming clinics, we will answer some of the most through provoking challenges the horses are faced with every day. And how the horse has evolved over years of evolution to develop the single digit bone called the distal phalanx or commonly known as the pedal bone so it can cope with the speed, stress and loading forces placed upon it when completing its daily task and withstanding the constant forces of gravity.

Basic Trimming Course - Day 14

The Day 14 clinic will expand your knowledge in:

Advanced Orthopaedic Trimming Principles;
The science of equine biophysics;
Orthopaedic loading of the distal interphalangeal joint;
EOB’S Orthopaedic Trimming Principles; and
The interrelationships of hoof balance and biomechanics.

The day will conclude with students receiving their completion certificates and an evening celebrating your achievements.
